As previously anticipated, fashion is looking ahead into the depths of the not-so-near future and Spring 2014 collections are being presented.
This time is the turn of Damir Doma, who recently presented his Menswear Spring/Summer 2014 collection in Paris (on June 29th, to be exact). June 2013 was a big month for the Croatia-hailing designer who enjoyed an extra burst of popularity when he was invited as a special guest to the ever-fashionable fair, Pitti Immagine in Florence, where he presented his women’s Resort collection for the very first time.
While Doma’s women’s collection exalted the female shape by perfectly hugging every curve of the female body, his Men’s Spring/Summer 2014 line is airy and breezy, leaving the male shape to be defined by the sharp cutting of the silhouette’s outline through the fabric; otherwise, the general dimension of every piece is a free, loose one.
Hues are not as varied as one might have gotten used to when faced with Doma’s creations. Forget his spiraling through every possible hue of each picked color; for Spring/Summer 2014, the designer “limited” his choices to white, cobalt blue, and amethyst purple. I was very careful to put the term limited between quote marks, because as it turns out Doma’s linear choice of colors gives this collection a cleaner, stronger feel. When presented with these outfits, one has the sense that Damir Doma has gone through a new coming of age and truly found his way.
Safari jackets, bombers, blouses, and pants of various lengths all convey the impression that the wearer knows exactly who he is, where he’s going, and what steps he needs to take to get there. Damir Doma’s Spring/Summer 2014 Men’s collection oozes determination, the same kind of drive which took this talented youth where he is today and that will, hopefully, take him further and further ahead on our favorite runways.
